Saint Peter's Square: -Built over the Circus of Nero -The Circus of Nero is a large stadium built by Emperor Nero of Rome. This was also the location of Peter's execution. -The obelisk that lies in the center represents the universe and the square represents the cosmos -The obelisk was there since ancient Rome, the Christians took it since it was the last thing Peter saw before his death. -The square is right in front of the basilica. -
