Summary: The setting is Fort Weyr during the 6th Pass, about ten years prior to the events in "Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern". Billee is a Harperhall apprentice who is found on Search and Impresses a blue dragon (Margroth). He meets and makes friends with Domin, a Weyr-bred boy who Impresses a green (Aurieth). The story follows their two years of training and first few months as fully-fledged dragonriders.
Disclaimer: The Dragonriders of PernŽ belong to Anne McCaffrey. Billy and Dom belong to themselves (but not necessarily to each other). I'm not making any profit from this story, so there's no point in suing me if you don't like it.
Author Notes:
1. This story was triggered by reading Seer's wonderful story The Golden Queen, which I recommend most heartily. Before I read that I had no idea that there was such a thing as Pern fanfiction, which gives you an idea of how firmly fixated I am on LOTRPS. Her story is Sean/Lijah, and naturally I started thinking about how a Monaboyd dragonrider pairing would work. This is the result.
2. I have tried very hard to keep as close to canon as possible with this story. Gay blue and green riders are indeed canon (it's only hinted at in the early books, but "Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern" states it quite clearly). I have also made use of information from several other novels in the series, plus the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern by Jody Lynn Nye (which, alas, has many inaccuracies), the People of Pern by Robin Wood, and the truly impressive Atlas of Pern by Karen Wynn Fonstad. Where no specific information was provided, I have extrapolated as best I can.
3. For those who aren't familiar with Pern, I have provided a brief Guide to the Uninitiated below, and there's a map of the western portion of the northern continent here, taken from the Atlas of Pern.
4. I have made use of several characters from Anne McCaffrey's novel "Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern" in minor roles. A list of characters and their provenance is attached below.
5. I appear to have perpetuated those fanon favourites Repressed!Billy and Wonderslut!Dom. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
