Our next port was Skagway.  The boat was harbored between the mountains.
Skagway still has many of the old buildings from the Gold Rush Days.  We had a fun morning shopping!

Learn more about the gold rush in Skagway.

All aboard the White Pass and Yukon Railroad!

Our afternoon was spent on this old narrow gauge steam train.  This train traces the route that the gold miners took from Skagway into Canada in the late 1800s.  We had lovely views of the mountains and the valleys.

Visit the White Pass and Yukon Railroad website.

Here are the remains of the Chilkoot Pass.  The gold miners were required to carry a ton of supplies over this mountain trail before they were allowed to enter Canada to head for the gold fields.  Once the train was built, there was no longer need for the trail and it was abandoned.
