The Simpsons. A cartoon with the plot of a sitcom. This TV family started out in the 1980's as a two-minute cartoon short on Fox's "The Tracey Ullman Show". There were 48 Tracey Ullman Show2-minute cartoons. Then, the Simpsons got a 30-minute show, the first episode of which aired on December 17th, 1989. It was titled "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". Homer becomes a department store Santa and Bart gets the family dog, Santa's Little Helper.

Now it's 14 years later, and I think that the Simpsons has gotten a little bit "flat", but it's still good.

New episodes air Sunday nights at 8 P.M. (at least in the U.S) The Rochester, New York FOX station (I live in Rochester) broadcasts reruns at 6 and 7 weekday nights. The show has aired about 340 half-hour episodes in its 15 seasons. Each year, sometime near Halloween, there is a special "Treehouse of Horror" episode. They aren't scary, but they're still funny. There are also special Christmas episodes.

The five main characters are the Simpsons family. (Homer the dad, Marge the mom, Bart and Lisa the kids and Maggie the baby) They live in Springfield, USA (the name of the state has never been mentioned), which is a typical suburban town. The show has a large cast of minor characters representing the other citizens of Springfield, some of them Simpson family relatives. See a list of the names and roles of some of the minor characters here.
