General Information: Aklan District Award of Merit
The Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award present by councils. It is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 25 units or fraction thereof. The district need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.
The Award is available to registered Scouters who render noteworthy service of an outstanding nature at the district level. The nature and value of "noteworthy service to youth" may consist of a single plan or decision that contributed vitally to the lives of large numbers of youth or it may have been given to a small group over an extended period of time. The nominee should also have contributed some service to youth outside of Scouting.
Consideration should be given to the nominee's position and the corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectation of duty. The nominee's attitude toward and cooperation with the district and council is to be taken into consideration.
There is no time requirement for the District Award of Merit.
NOTE: The nomination is confidential. To avoid possible disappointment, please do not advise the nominee in any way of your action in his behalf.
You will need to assemble the following information and forward that information to Jerry Stinson, Aklan district Committee Chair, 254-2955 by 2/15/04:
1. Scouting recognitions earned or awarded (woodbadge, den leader's award, boy scout leader's award)
2. Record of service in the BSA
This will include dates, position, community, dist or council positions
3. Information of service to youth outside of scouting
4. Community Service outside of scouting (religious, business, professional, civic, educational, fraternal, rural, etc.) and offices or positions held.
5. Statement telling why you think this person has given noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth on which you base your recommendation.
