The problems on unsustainable use of resources is manifested in the following:

• Timber poaching and mining upstream areas.

• Hunting and trapping of wildlife.

• Electro- fishing.

• Farming on the banks, which is number one identified causes of riverbed siltation.

• Expansion of oil palm plantation in the Marsh.

• Lack of research studies on the breeding/spawning cycle of birds, mammals/fishes.

• Problems related to presence of Water Hyacinth

• Hindrance to water transport
• Micro-habitat for variety of diseases vectors
• Increased evapo-transpiration
