Chapter nine

Alexa woke up in the morning, her head resting against AJ's chest. She could feel the steady rhythm of his breathing, and knew he was still asleep. She started to get up when he groaned. "Where are you going?"

She glanced at the window, "It's morning, I was planning to get up."

"Already?"

Alexa leaned over to kiss him, before standing up. "Don't you have things to do?"

Grabbing her by the arm he pulled her back over to him, "Actually yes, but nothing more important than you."

She pulled herself away, "Oh no no, get up."

"Yes, ma'am."

Alexa rolled her eyes as she left the room. A few minutes later, AJ joined her in the kitchen, and she heard him sit at the table. "You working today?"

She nodded, "I've got a couple of patients to look in on." Before she could react she found herself sitting on his lap. "Hello."

AJ wrapped his arms around her, so that she couldn't get up, and then rested his chin on her shoulder. Alexa idly traced one of his tattoos with her fingernail. "What are you doing today?"

He growled quietly, "If you don't stop that, I won't be leaving."

Twisting around in his arms, she faced him, "You're the one holding me here."

"I had a reason for that. You got me distracted." He let go, allowing Alexa to stand, and she pulled him to his feet. "I've gotta go home. I haven't been yet." He stopped, and appeared to think. "Just remembered, the guys are coming to my place tomorrow. Brian will bring LeighAnne, Christina will show up with Nick. I want you there."

"You sure you want to let me meet the other guys? I might be like Taylor and decide there's a better Backstreet Boy than you." She scrunched up her nose and giggled when he looked annoyed.

"There is nobody better than me." He said it as if there couldn't possibly be any debating the point.

Alexa giggled again, "I don't know, Nick is awful cute."

"That's it, you're uninvited."

"Okay, okay. I'll be good." She lifted her hand in the Girl Guide swear, "I promise not to hit on any other Backstreet boys."

"Good, none of them deserve you anyway. You're nothing but trouble." Alexa crossed her arms and glared, "But I'm addicted to trouble. I'll pick you up in the morning."

Alexa went and saw her patients, then rushed home to call Taylor. She needed to brush up on what information she knew about these guys before she met them. When Taylor wasn't home, she started to freak. She hadn't realized how nervous she'd get about meeting the rest of them, considering she'd had no chance to be nervous about meeting AJ. She knew she was meeting celebrities this time, he'd just been some guy with tattoos.

She hardly slept that night, and in the morning she spent an hour staring into her closet. She'd just decided when the doorbell rang. "Augh!" She ran to the door, flinging it open, "I'm not ready yet." She turned and went straight back to the closet, leaving AJ standing in the door.

"What's up?" He spoke loudly enough so that she could hear him in the other room.

"I'm having a closet crisis."

"Need help?"

"Oh, no. Not from you. I've seen your sense of style."

AJ took a second to look at the clothes he was wearing, but before he could reply, the telephone rang.

"Can you get that?" Alexa heard him answer the phone, while she finished getting ready, then she headed into the other room.

"He's really not that cute, y'know. He's just a big slob."

Alexa laughed to herself, knowing that it had to be Taylor, quizzing him about Nick. AJ smirked as he listened. Alexa motioned for him to give her the phone, but he shook his head.

"Listen, Taylor, she'll call you when she gets home and tell you all about Mr. Wonderful, alright." He paused for a second, and then laughed. "Sure. Next time, promise. Nick's all yours." He hung up the phone and looked at Alexa. "What were you so worried about? You're gorgeous."

Alexa did a little spin, and smiled. "Thank you. I just didn't know what to wear to meet the Backstreet Boys." She pretended to swoon, and then laughed.

"Why's it matter? You've already got one of those."

"I might want to trade up. You never know." She crinkled her nose at him as she picked up her purse.

"Impossible. I told you, you've already got the best one."
