Chapter five

"Alexa." She heard her name as she rushed into the clinic but she didn't have time to stop. "Alexa."

The voice followed her so she called back over her shoulder. "No time Tay. I'm supposed to be at the hospital this morning, but in all the commotion yesterday, I forgot a file. And I need coffee." Alexa stopped and turned. "Do me a favor and grab me coffee." She looked at Taylor who didn't appear to be moving. "I swear I'll tell you everything. My place, tonight. We'll do the girl's night thing."

Taylor looked only mildly appeased but she left to get the coffee, grumbling about having to wait all day to find out anything. Alexa flipped through the files on her desk, finally finding the right one and left her office.

"Here's your coffee," Taylor held out the cup, the pout on her face evident even to the rushing doctor.

"Have I told you lately you're my best friend, Tay?" Alexa only stopped long enough to grab the cup and smile at Taylor.

"So, does that at least mean that it went well? Gimme something here." Taylor begged as she rushed back out the door.

"Excuse me,"p> Taylor held up her hand to signify she'd be just one minute when she heard the voice. She finished up with the phone call, and scribbled a note on the appointment book, before looking up, her friendly nurse smile plastered on her face. "What can I do ..." her voice trailed off, "for you?" Her grin faded, to be nearly instantly replaced by a genuine grin. "Hi!"

"Hey," Aj peered at her over his sunglasses, "Is Dr. Reeves around?"

Taylor sighed, "Sorry, no. This is one of her hospital days. She flew through this morning but she didn't stay long." Taylor stopped, watching AJ's expression. "She didn't even stay long enough to fill me in on last night." Taylor smirked at him.

AJ raised his eyebrows and then shook his head. "I'm not saying anything."

"Oh, you don't have to. Just the fact that you're here means it went well." Taylor was sure of that fact.

He shrugged, "Could mean it went horribly wrong and I'm here to apologize."

Taylor cocked her head sideways in thought. "Hmmm.... nah. Alexa was much too happy this morning for that." Taylor immediately clapped her hand over her mouth, realizing Alexa was not going to be happy she'd said that. "Shit."

A cocky grin crept across AJ's face, and he leaned across the desk toward Taylor. "I won't tell her you said that, if you give me her number."

It only took Taylor a second to think about it, before she scribbled Alexa's home phone number on a piece of paper and folded it up tightly. "Okay," she stuck out her hand, the paper tucked inside, "it's a deal."

AJ shook her hand, and took the paper in one movement. "Nice doing business with you. See you around."

Taylor smiled to herself as he turned and walked away, "I most certainly hope so.
