About

Hobbyist, Tinkerer, Maker, Nerd and Dad

Me and my boys

Hi, I'm Joe, but you can call me A DIY Dad.

I’ve always been a “maker.” As a kid, I always preferred hands-on projects and I dabbled in a few different hobbies growing up. My interest in woodworking grew when we bought our house in Norwood, MA about five years ago. There was a great, established space for a woodshop in the basement and that plus a garage suddenly made it easier for me to create. The interest really took off when I learned we were expecting our first child and I got it in my head that I would make him a crib. I loved researching ideas, planning the build, and the sense of pride I got at the finished project.

Since then, I’ve found joy in creating customized home decor, furniture, presents, and toys for my family and our friends and I’m really excited to share those projects with you through A DIY Dad. If you see something you like, I’d be happy to make one (or more!) just for you. If you have an idea for something you don’t see, I’d love to make something new as well.

Thanks for visiting my page! I’m looking forward to working on projects for all of you and, in the process, teaching my little apprentices all about the joys of woodworking.

Defense of the Final Product

I really like the modern look of the very simple home page along with the large photo header on the sub pages. I used google fonts for the primary and secondary fonts to make it different then the standard available. I know red and yellow are stop colors so I stuck with suble blue, black and white. I think overall the design is clean and easy to navigate.

Opportunities for Improvement and Growth

While I do not mind the white space above and below the header but that was not my design. I took a suggestion from a classmate to get rid of the margin in the css sheet which did improve the look. Still not 100% where I would like it. Some of the layouts on the pages could be inproved as well as adding a lot more photos. I could not figure out how to do a larger paragraph box for the form. I leared a ton in this class, I had never worked with css prior to this. I feel like I have a much stronger understanding of HTML and I do plan to actually use this site in some form for my official site insteaad of the google site I use now.
