Rob: It seems to be late morning.

Barry: There is a nip in the air. The leaves are beginning to hint at Autumn. The light has an unworldly feel, which I've sometimes felt at Autumn. There is a faint hint of rain in the air. Rain makes the leaves and grass smell strong. I can sense the presence of a bear lumbering through the forest.

Rob: I am tuned to the Goddess again. Fenir is in the circle and I can see the Kestrel flying just above you. In times past we did not hunt alone in the forest, but with the hunter and huntress, invoking their spirits to enhance our skills.
br> The bear would be difficult to catch.

Barry: The bear is searching for a cave to hibernate in as winter approaches. During this time it will dream, storing the memories it has acquired during the summer. It is an animal of long slow contemplation.

Rob: It has great strength and surprising dexterity.

Barry: Attributes change as seasons turn.

Rob: The teddy bear is a symbol of childhood security. The bear market is a cautious stock market.

Barry: The pregnant young girl who we saw is an aspect of the huntress. I think we should explore the symbolism during our dreaming time, winter. I see her as a young girl about 15 dressed in skins. She carries a long flint headed spear, and wears a necklace of feathers. She has a pouch containing bones. She is heavy with child.

What do you make of the giant symbolism?

Rob: Brute strength. Its size, greater than ours underlines how frightening size can be.

Barry: Is it a destructive force?

Rob: No force is either one thing or another. It just exists.

Barry: Describe how you see Jaltz.

Rob: Old, yet not weak. He has no frailty. His eyes burn with intensity, awareness, intelligence, observation and wisdom. He has seen much, and done much. And he has had the time to sit back and assimilate it.

Barry: What does he carry?

Rob: His staff symbolises the will, discipline hard earned. He wears a thick robe the colour of green wood.

Barry: Do you see anything at his belt?

Rob: No, not yet. His clasp is a circle cross of bronze. He is not a tall man, he seems slightly bowed.

Barry: I see him carrying a set of keys tied to his belt. They are large and heavy. I don't know what they mean, I get the feeling that we will have to complete this cycle three times, with a different key for each cycle. Whether the girl, the giant or Jaltz have anything to do with it I don't know.

Rob: His manner is kindly, but he can be abrupt. He doesn't suffer fools gladly. Barry:  Is he a guardian of the temple, or an aspect of it?

Rob: No, not a guardian, more of an archetype. The anima is the female; the giant is the shadow.

Barry: I feel her pregnancy is our attempt to release the female side of ourselves. I described her before as appearing to be hunted, this may be me trying to hunt down the anima in me, and the fears of that release. All have to be faced. Even the shadow. Is Jaltz a higher archetype?

Rob: Yes, the integrated self.

Barry: The woman is a huntress, strong and capable, she relies on her wiles to survive. This is the aspect of femininity I most admire, and would like to promote. It seems the giant is the opposite in some ways.

Rob: Maybe the ones you can relate to.

I think it would be of benefit to converse with the Shadow. It needs to be acknowledged and faced. It represents the nightmare of knowing what you are capable of.

Barry: Are they in the elements?

Rob: Not sure, but by digging in the earth (ourselves), we have found hidden aspects of ourselves. So to that extent it is related to the Earth element, but I'm not sure what might happen in the other elemental temples.

Barry: I would like to make further journeys to look at and talk to the archetypes in further detail. Perhaps we could link this with ritual. Are you ready to return? Rob:  Not quite. I have been exploring the ambiguity of the Shadow. I feel fear and fascination.
