Barry: It is a grey overcast day. There is a light rain in the wind. Above the cave entrance I can see the carved familiar features of the Green Man.

Rob: There are ivy leaves issuing from his mouth.

Barry: He is shrouded in leaves, but his eyes are clear.

Rob: It is real foliage on his features.

Barry: I feel that the stones are his fingers reaching up from the earth. But his true heart lies in the cave. His body is the surrounding woods.

Rob: His phallus is the maypole.

Barry: I can smell cut grass and the damp smell of leaves and earth. The stone in the East is the kestrel stone. I t has feathers very shallowly carved into it, and a hole towards the top. This can be looked through to give the far sight of the kestrel.

There are not only masks hanging from the maypole. There is also a horn, and a whistle, and a hollow bone.

Rob: Can you see anything at the base of the pole?

Barry: No it seems surrounded by stones, and some bones.

Rob: Should we blow on the horn, or use the flute? The flute plays the call of birds.

Barry: The horn is part of the hunt. I don't know about the bone, perhaps it's to make some sort of drum.

Rob: I see a brown snake coiled around the base of the pole. It is quite long, but coiled tightly around like a rope.

Barry: Does it reach the top?

Rob: No it only seems to be coiled around the base. The wolf has entered the circle.

Barry: Mighty wolf, grant me the pleasure of running with your pack. I notice a wolf mask on the pole.

Rob: All are kin who enter this place.

Barry: I put on the wolf mask. The smells of the forest are now the most apparent thing. I feel myself loping along the snowy grass with the pack. It is a cold moonlight night. I can smell the warmth of the prey. I can sense the strength and kinship in the pack. Older members are cared for; the young are taught and protected.

Endurance is the strongest impression I receive, and also power and the sense of kinship.

I am back in the circle. I place the mask back on the pole, and thank the wolf for sharing that experience. The kestrel watches from the East stone, its eyes are sharp and alert.

Rob: The wolf's name is Fennier.

Mighty Kestrel spirit, do me the honour of sharing flight with you. I put on the Kestrel mask. We soar together into the air, and see the forest for miles in all directions, and the glade far below. I can see the Ley lines leading from the glade, and that they pass through the landscape. We fly to one of the lines, we can travel almost anywhere using these lines. Distance is no problem.

I can see the smaller energy systems of the creatures below, like lots of stars, knowing what each one is. I am hovering effortlessly. Now I can see you in the glade. We swoop down together, and I am back in the circle. The kestrel is back on its stone. I remove the mask and hang it back on the pole.

Barry: The kestrel's name is Chokail.

I feel that we can put the first two symbols on the totem wheel.

Rob: I still don't know the direction of the wolf.

Barry: I feel the Green Man should be in the middle.

Rob: I feel that the wolf is probably associated with the South stone.

I join consciousness with Fennier again. I am on a plateau halfway up a mountain. Everywhere is bathed in moonlight. I howl a cry of yearning, symbolising the spirit's urge to rise up the tree.

Barry: I can see an image of power sight belonging to the kestrel. It is not a stone circle. It is the remains of hut circles, high on a hillside where the wind blows. The kestrel can roam free. The kestrel represents the ability to attain the spiritual goal. It is aloof, but connected, it can step back and see the whole picture. It also represents the messenger.

Rob: The wolf's nose is sensitive. Sometimes faint smells are eclipsed by stronger ones. This communicates the need for purifying to improve. The faint smells are the stirrings of the spirit; the strong smells the traps of the mundane.
