Barry: The maypole is 8 feet tall.

Rob: The maypole is carved with spirally holly and oak leaves.

Barry: Hanging off the maypole are masks of different coloured woods. Some are of animals, other plain.

Rob: I am going to examine a stone.

Barry: The pole is drawing energy from the sky and the earth. The pole is drawing energy from the sky and the earth.

Rob: It is the focal point of the circle. It draws power from the sky and distributes it to the ten stones. They radiate lines of power. A ten-sided symbol should be at the centre of our table.

The rock of this standing stone is not cold. It is of the living earth, proud and strong. There is more than what we see, it is rooted deep in the earth, whence it draws strength.

Barry: The circle is a focal point of energy from the surrounding woods. A place where we can perceive the knowledge and wisdom of the forest. It is a place of overlapping power of the natural world. We would endanger ourselves by stepping too soon from the circle. We are not ready for the energies of the wood yet.

Rob: I feel glad to be here, as though my heart sings. This is a place where we can draw strength ourselves.

Barry: I feel like running around the circle.

Rob: Theres nothing stopping us.

Barry: My dance is like the pattern on the maypole, it weaves in and out.

Rob: We ought to put on a mask. I can see one with two faces, one a crescent moon, the other a sun.

Barry: I see a white featureless mask, its eyes are narrow.

Rob: I have put the mask on. It is very strange. Through one eye I see daylight, and through the other night. The daily cycle of these planets is perfect.

Barry: I put on the mask. I see great brightness. The glade is gone replaced by light flowing to the centre. It is yellow.

Rob: As I run around, I feel a spiral of energy following and climbing, and behind me runs a wolf. I am running impossibly fast, but I am not out of breath.

Barry: I see out of the eyes of a bird of prey. It has a strong beak and talons. The bird can fly with the energy, but I cannot.

Rob: The spiralling power has reached a high point above the temple. Its shape has changed to that of a four sided pyramid of swirling energy. Thus is our temple empowered.

Barry: The circle dance is a key to empowerment.

Rob: I take off the mask and hang it back on the pole. Now I can only sense power, not see it.

The wolf is in the circle.

Barry: I take off my mask. The kestrel perches on a stone.

Rob: The wolf sits looking, its tongue lolling, eyes bright and alert. Do you realise what we have done?

Barry: Found totem animals.

Rob: I sense images of warm fur, and a tireless gait; and smelling the air and howling at the moon; running with my brethren; relying on them as they do on me.

Barry: I sense freedom and strength; the ability to soar and seek and have knowledge of the earth and the sky.

Rob: The wolf tells me that we should dance our power animals. I should run very quickly. They will be here when we return, we shall learn with them.

Barry: The kestrel tells me to gain the freedom of a bird, to soar and be strong and see what the bird sees.

Rob: Ghob, we thank you.

Notes: With this working is a page of line drawings showing the two masks; detail of the maypole; the kestrels head, and the pattern of power flowing through and out of the circle.
