Well I've been quite busy working on the car and have found a lot of filler, and I mean A LOT!
I've alread told you about the how the front quarters were full of filler and on of the rear quarters were much worse. The filler was at least an inch thick, the bottom of the offside rear quarter has been replaced but not in the normal way. A strip has been spot welded on and then the bottom quarter repair panel has been welded to that. I can only guess that this caused a lot of distortion so it was hammered down and then covered in half ton of filler. I think I will have to carefully strip this off untill I find where the metal joins the fibre glass rear deck so I can sort the rear quarters out so the inch of filler isn't needed.
Ollie came round and we welded some bracing arcoss the door openings to try to stop the body falling apart completely when I replace the heater channels. Welding them on was a bit differcult as to get power to my garage you have to run 80m of cable, the resulting voltage drop makes for very hard welding. It welded in the end but it is pretty ugly, I'll have to sort something else out for the actual welding on the car. I have also been chopping any metal out that has joined the body to the chassis. Both the heater channel have been completely covered in very thick plates which wore out a cutting disk cutting just one side out.
I've had a bit more sucess with the 1303 donor car. I got the body ready to come off, I have lifted it up but I still have yet to find a home for it. I just need to take the gearbox and A arms off so the chassis is bare, then on the 8th of September it is going to Jon Rathbone for the frame head swap. The batties ran out on the camera so I haven't got any pics of the car with the braceing yet. I'll get some more battries tomorrow. Mean while I have taken the battries out of the TV remote to take a couple of pics of some of the chunks of filler taken out of the front and rear quarters.
