Biking
- September 4 - Full moon bike ride and potluck dinner
Join us at 6:00 pm for a potluck dinner followed by a full moon bike
ride. Well provide hotdogs for the grill. If you want to grill
anything else, bring it as well as a dinner or desert item. Sunset
is approximately 6:30 and moonrise at 6:20. Well do our full moon
ride from our house up to New Freedom. Those who dont wish to ride
can walk the trail or just enjoy the ambiance of being on the river.
Bring a bike that will work for you on an unpaved trail and please
bring a bike light that actually mounts to the bars, though we hope
itll be clear enough not to need one. If you dont have a light,
stay close to someone who does, itll work fine.
Directions: Take I-83 north from the Baltimore beltway to exit 33,
turn right onto York Rd. south. Go mile and turn right onto Dairy
Rd. At the bottom of the hill turn left onto Hyde Rd. Were the
pale yellow house in the triangle of Hyde and Dairy Rds., #18944 Hyde
Rd. If you cross the river youve gone too far. (Dan and Barb)
- September 13, 10:00 AM - Bike and Brunch
Join us for a potluck brunch and bike ride at our home in Parkton.
Well have a sausage and egg casserole for the crowd. If someone
volunteers to make omelets or pancakes, well provide the
accouterments. Please call to RSVP and/or if you wish to coordinate
food items.
The road ride will be approximately sixteen miles along the hilly and
very beautiful and roads in our neighborhood. You can also do a flat
ride along the unpaved North Central Rail Trail. The trail ride will
be out and back and will be as far as you wish to go then turn
around. The trail may also be combined with the road route to
provide a shortcut totaling only about eight miles. The road ride is
predominately downhill for at least the last two miles back to our
house. Bring along the appropriate bike for the ride you wish to
do.
For directions see the full moon ride above. (Dan and Barb)

October 10 - Seagull Century
Bill, Barb and I plan to ride the Seagull this coming October. The
plan is to ride the full century (100 miles), but a shorter version,
100 kilometers (62.4 miles) is available. It is one of the
easier epic rides in that the terrain is perfectly flat, although
wind and weather may conspire to make it more of a challenge. If
youve always wanted to do a century ride or think its a challenge
you wish to try, follow the link at the bottom of this short article
to their website. They do sell out, and if you plan to do it, you
should train for the distance so dont wait too long to sign
up.
From their home page:
Salisbury University celebrates the 21st annual Sea Gull Century on
Saturday, October 10. A 100-kilometer (64 miles) or 100-mile ride,
the Sea Gull Century is a Best Bicycling in America event that has
been named among the top 10 century rides in the nation by Bicycling
magazine. The Ride Magazine has called the century one of the
prettiest big rides in America. The Washington Post has named
it by far the most popular local century in the Maryland-Delaware-
Virginia region. Starting and ending at SU, the Sea Gull Century
began 20 years ago when a group of 68 cycling enthusiasts banded
together to develop a 100-mile century ride. Now, some 6,000
cyclists come - some of them year after year - because of the
terrain, the challenge, the food, the entertainment, the chance to
explore a new area and the hundreds of friendly volunteers who make
the Sea Gull Century happen.
