Shanae was quite happy with her weave in Dec. '99

until she did this!

A few months ago this brave 14-year old cut her relaxed hair.
Shanae tells me all she does is add a little water, a little gel and she's on her way out the door to school.
Good for you Shanae, you look great!!

Noree - This is my prized afro-puff!
after one and a half years of growing it from being cut down to the scalp. This was taken in 1999, before I cut it all off and started over again. My hair is almost at this length again now. To get this style, I just wash, condition and saturate my hair with a liquid leave in conditioner to make pulling it back easier. Doing that also makes the puff stay soft after it dries. I corn rowed the front and slicked the rest up using the type of gel that was meant for styling jherri curls (I like it better than regular gel, it makes my hair a little wavier) and then I just shape the puff with my hands. I never comb my hair out until I wash it again...I only brush the surface of my ponytail to maintain it.
my 17-year old nephew jerome has been growing his hair for over a year and as you can see he loves to experiment with it!
...'kay, here goes:
I first had my hair comb twisted by D during the Memorial Day weekend last year (May), so it's been approximately 10 months. My locs are not long enough yet for a pony tail, but they are trying to get there. I could probably be a little bit more creative and pull them up into some sort of funky little style, but havent really tried yet. They are probably about 5-6 inches long, I guess. The ones in the back are trying to graze my neck, and a couple in the back are kind of long. They absorb an AWFUL lot of products though, and I try to keep them from getting too dry. They are not soft, but not real hard and stiff either. It's kind of hard to describe.

I'm still not real good at washing, because it's real difficult to get all of the shampoo/conditioner out of the locs, because my arms get real tired. I'm still averaging about 4 weeks between washings right now because when I do, there is still approximately 2-3 inches of hair starting at the roots, that is not locked, and has to be separated/retwisted, which can be real tiresome.

I've been really liking them, and i'm sure a lot of this has to do with the fact that there is some length to them now. I do plan on going back for a professional hook up for my 1 year anniversary!
