TESSELLATION QUILT WORKSHOP
- February 14, 2006
Twenty of us were at the quilting workshop on February 14 and had the benefit of the wisdom of Eti David, Head of the Israel Quilters Association (IQA) who taught us the very basics of Tessellation quilting. We were astounded to find out how much could be done with so little
.
According to Jinny Beyer's book, Tessellations are designs that interlock perfectly to repeat across a surface. These are found in geometric patterns, in mosaics, architecture, and traditional patchwork right through to the incredible representational art of Escher.
Eti gave us a very good grounding on making these types of quilts, though we only worked on some very basic ideas We made templates in colored papers and played around with designs before cutting the actual templates we needed. We felt like we were children at Kindergarden again.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and hopefully we will get to see some of the finished products soon. |
