Broken Computer?
Absolutely
===========================================================
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
To save you the expense of even a telephone call, we have put together what we think would be the most likely selection of questions for you, the potential Client, might want to ask us, so here goes...!
"What a name to choose! Why Absolutely Broken Computer?"?
"Basically, we wanted to inject some humour into the business! There are lots of Computer Maintenance and Support Companies in this area, all of whom concentrate on a 'Best Of ' sales pitch, i.e. 'Best Hardware Service', etc. At the end of the day, there are only so many ways that you can replace a Video Card!!! We decided to approach our business with some degree of sensitivity and concentrate on a largely unwanted part of the business - the Repair and Upgrade side. In reality, we very rarely see a Computer that is, quite literally, 'Absolutely Broken', and so thought, why not, let's try and put a smile on people's faces, the graphics say it all!!!
"Why do you say the Repair business is not wanted?"
"There is very little profit in it, especially for the BIG Stores. The price of certain Peripherals has come down to the point where even the Second-Hand P.C. Market is virtually non-existent, and you can only put a certain degree of a profit margin on new Peripherals. Once you have gone to your Supplier to get the parts you need, found the location of the Client, and done the job, the average Commerical P.C. Technician won't walk away with much more than £50-£70 in their pockets. It's just not worth their while, so they prefer to advise their Customers to allow them to build them a new P.C. at a large profit to them! Or at least upgrade major Components of the P.C."
"And the Upgrade Side?"
"The Upgrade side is still fairly popular amongst smaller shops, as long as you are updating to something very modern - so the profit margin is still there. The Bigger Shops, less so, as they have the pre-built P.C.'s they want to sell at vast profit. The part of Repairing and Upgrading is a side of their business they'd sooner not have."
"If the market is so non-existant & and not profitable, why target your Company to it?"
"We believe the attitudes described above are now so rife that there are now enough people who want Repairs/Upgrades that have their Orders effectively turned away by the high-prices, which means that there is a market out there and we are in a position to provide that service to people who want it."
"But if the profit margins are so low, as you suggest they are, how can you succeed in these areas where others fail, or at least aren't interested in succeeding in?"
"For us a big profit is not as important! There is a difference between making a reasonable profit and making a huge profit. We'd rather make a small profit out of a lot of Clients than a massive profit out of a few of them.
"How easy are you to contact and/or visit?"
"In a word - very! Our base is 23, West Hill, Dartford. We're near the bottom of the hill. Our shop is actually on the 1st Floor of Woods & Porter - the well known Photograpy & Camera Shop; you have to come in through their front door and up the stairs. Do give us a ring though, especially if you're intending to bring your P.C. into us, as we may not be there because we also visit Clients on-site. We have our standard Landline number, which has an Answering Machine connected to it, a Mobile Phone with a very easy to remember number and Voicemail, and an E-Mail Address, together with this Website!" When we're in, we usually leave the blinds up at the windows!!
"This does seem to be a rather Amateurish Website for an I.T. Company, no clever effects or gimmicks?"
That is a deliberate move. It occurred to us that the probability is that if you've come looking for our Site, then the chances are you you may have something wrong with your P.C., therefore the last thing you want is for your machine to have to handle flashy graphics and features when surfing, you just want a straightforward Site, so that's what you've got!
"You don't mention Web Development, Networking, or Commercial work on your Homepage - do you specialise in any of these areas?"
"We don't specialise in those areas, but we get involved in all areas of I.T. We specialise in Repairs, Upgrades, Second-User and New Systems, and speaking plain English rather than Jargon! You don't need to know the Jargon either, if you want a P.C. built to your Specification you don't have to give us such information as S.D. R.A.M., Bus Speed, or Motherboards specs, unless you want to. A Windows 98 PC with Office 2000 for Internet and E-Mail, is enough to go on!
"I've noticed in your Special Launch Offer, you ask Clients to put a downpayment towards the cost of the P.C., prior to it being built. If I went to one of the big stores they don't ask for that do they? Why are you different?"
"No, they don't. They also have the advantage of having new P.C.'s on the shelf ready to sell, which if you don't want it, the next Customer will. We actually don't have any new Custom Built P.C.'s to sell "off-the-shelf" at all, only Second-Hand Systems. Therefore they are built especially for you the Client; the downpayment acts as a Guarantee, that's all. We also offer an on-site Technician FREE-OF-CHARGE for the first seven days if anything goes wrong - the "big" Stores and Shops don't offer that either, do they?.We believe we are better by being different in positive ways to other Companies."
