Cafe Abeer (I finally got down to it and 'painted the town red') It's my little corner of the world. Some of the things on the walls were made by friends.
Borders Cafe was my favorite place to hang out in Bloomington. There was something that attracted me about the red walls. Some pics by my bed...
I shipped 3 boxes of books all the way from Bloomington. They finally made it! Owning all these books make me feel smart...
Yup, I couldn't survive without Newton's Telecom Dictionary, now could I? Like many Desi households, I have suitcases above my cupboard. So if I ever need to plan an escape, it's pretty easy to pack!
Mrs. Shah. Ershad Bhai the cook.
My Seat Toledo! She takes me places... Isn't that a fine behind?
Family portraits on the wall. Top left is a pic of Baba and Mama when they got married in the 70's (Baba had hair then). Note how Mickey has his corner on the Wall of Fame. Nidal and I, back in '87. I used to look so innocent...
We've owned this freezer all my life, but I just realized it's called Al Gore :) Baba is in the kitchen, as usual.
Mickey loves napping in the sun. These 2 birds have defied all norms. They are madly in love with each other. The big one has bitten through its cage so it can kiss the smaller one. Passionate love...
We've adopted 9 cats outside our house. These are some of the kittens we look after. We call this one Mamoo because he's the kittens' uncle, and is the male protector of the clan.
For Halloween, I wanted to make a political statement that SUICIDE BOMBING is WRONG. So to draw attention to myself I dressed up like one. I even made a fake looking bomb to put around my waist. But I held a sign that said "This is NOT the Way to Peace ... Hey, where's the roadmap?" To see my whole outfit click on the image. This is the evidence on which I base that suicide bombing is wrong. For one, it harms women and children, and also breaks all the "rules of war" that Abu Bakr (r.a) laid out. The Israeli Govt is definitely not innocent, they have occupied, murdered, oppressed, tortured many innocent people too. Anyways, most people at the party agreed with me and I actually won first place for the best costume!

The kitchen is the most happening place from 3 - 5pm since we're preparing the food and stuff. Here's Ma stuffing Koosa with rice, meat and spices. Its an Arab dish called Koosa Mokhshi.
Baba takes over and fries them. Meanwhile Ershad Bhai crushes garlic, which is added in the end with cilantro and olive oil.
Baba places it into a big dish. Spices and more water is added, including yogurt at the end. And then it's brought to a boil...
Meanwhile I stay out of the way and read the Quran. Ramadhan has really helped me understand the Quran a lot better. Ramdhan is a very spiritual month, and most people spend a lot of time with the Quran, or in prayer.
Mrs Shah sets the table for everyone. And still even more food is being prepared in the Kitchen.
Those chili's look tempting... The food is put on the table, and looks yummy...
The Final Product: Koosa Mokhshi and loads of other goodies. Mrs. Shah is very hungry today...
We all sit around the table and make dua (supplications) together. Abdullah Bhai leads us in the dua..
I break my fast with dates, tomato soup and Diet Vimto. After eating, we all pray Maghreb together.
