*  FRANCISCO DAGOHOY [17th Century] Rebel Leader

Born in Bohol during the early 17th century. Served as cabeza de barangay of Bohol. Rebelled [1744-1829] against the priest, Fr. Gaspar Morales, and Spanish authorities when his brother, Sagarino, a constable slain by a native renegade, was refused a Christian burial. Proclaimed " free Bohol" in Inabangan and Talibon mountains with leading members of the Tagbilaran, Baclayon, and Dauis principalias and some 3,000 men. As many as 20,000 supporters joined him, and after two decades a Recollect priest partly succeeded in reconciling the rebels, and when the amnesty failed, Governor-General Ricardo Ricafort dispatch a strong expidition which finally ended the rebellion.

*  JOSÉ CORAZON DE JESUS [1896-1932] Tagalog poet

Born in Sta. Cruz, Manila on November 22. Earned his A.B. (1916) from the Liceo de Manila, and his Ll.B. (1920) from Academia de Leyes. Forsook the bar exam for writing. Wrote his poem Pangungulila (Sorrow) at 17. Produced about 4,000 poems in his column "Buhay manila" (Life in the City for Taliba under the pen name Huseng Batute; about 800 more for another column, "Ang Lagot na Bagting" (The Broken String; plus 300 short poems and works of prose under several pen names. Held, alternately with Florentino Collantes, the title Hari ng Balagtasan in yearly contests. wrote lyrics for musical compositions, notable of which is Constancio C. de Guzman's "Bayan Ko". Ran unsuccessfully twice for mayor in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

*  GERARDO DE LEON [1913-1981] Master Filmmaker.

Born on September 12,1913 Gerry's first job was as a piano player at Cine Modemo during the era of silent movies. After finishing high school, he decided to become a doctor and enrolled at the U.S.T. College of Medicine. For a few years he concentrated on his studies; but the spell of the movies lured him. He became a professional actor and scriptwriter. His first directorial job came in 1939 via the movie, Ama't Anak. His biggest pre-war hit was Ang Maestra, starring Rogelio de la Rosa and Rosa del Rosario. De Leon went on to make over eighty movies from the 30&'s to the 70&'s. His last unfinished film was Juan de la Cruz starring Femando Poe, Jr. in 1976. He was named National Artist in Film in 1982. Died on July 21, 1981.
