Samahan ng Anak ni Maria, Inc.
Started way back 1986 as a religious apostolate of some Catechrists, Legionaries, Seminarians, etc. of San Isidro Labrador Parish upon blessings of their parish priest, the late Msgr. Valeriano Caguicla. But it was the late Rev. Fr. Emilio Palma who helped build the first house for the children in 1989. At present Msgr. Maximiano Manalac acts as its Eccl. Adviser and Msgr. Fidel Menorca as the spiritual director.
In 1987, fund raising activities were initiated in the parish, one of which was "Tayo'y Mga Anak ng Diyos," a play staged by the PYC. The proceeds was used to finance the schooling of eleven (11) street children. At present SAMAHAN has 135 scholars, including indigent children form the community.
In November 1989, SAMAHAN was formally formed and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC). And in 1990, a temporary shelter for streetchildren was formally opened at Soro-Soro, Binan, Laguna. A group of children, ages 8 to 17 years old, were the first clientele of the center. Bro. Jojo Limosenero, a former seminarian of San Pablo Theological Seminary, was their first houseparent, followed by Bro. Raul Matienzo of the same seminary. He will be ordained as a priest this September in the Diocese of Tarlac.
From 1990 up to the present, more than 250 streetchildren had been given services by the center. These poor children, mostly products of broken homes, were forced to run away from home and make a living in the marketplace of Binan as kargadors, scavengers, helpers, vendors, beggars, and dispatchers, but got hooked up with syndicates or persons who influenced them to indulge in vices such as petty thefts, gambling, white slavery, and use of prohibited substances. They developed negative habits and some had to be reffered to other rehabilitation centers which can best serve their needs.
