There is a ladder somewhere that stretches from earth and reaches ever heavenward. Jacob watched the angels ascending and descending, someday I fully expect to climb those rungs looking up and not down. I anticipate it to be an ecstasy taking me out of this world and into another where I will be completely reborn of fire. In my present state I do not have the capacity to behold such beauty without my heart bursting. What I expect to see I do not know but I know it will be well beyond description and my most wild imaginings.

Traveling upwards from Canazei through the Passo Pordoi in the Italian Dolomites, going upwards through twelve kilometres of hairpin bends, I thought of Jacob and the sheer beauty of what he saw. Three days earlier I had stood in the Piazza St Marco in Venezia; a city so beautiful that it had taken my breath away. Nothing however had prepared me for what I was now witnessing - monumental rocks, pinnacles stretching upwards on the skyline. My eyes were drawn ever upward and I jumped from side to side of the bus twisting and turning never for one moment taking my eyes from the peaks. I heard my self gasp and say over and over again 'so beautiful' at a loss for words the tears flowed down my cheeks. I felt my spirit rise within me attempting to break free my heart was bursting; overflowing. Thoughts turned to heaven of angels, beauty beyond belief. The ride on the cable car to the top was as a dream and once on the Sass Pardoi m.2.950 there displayed before my eyes a full circumference of snowy peaks.

'I am the way', He said it and I know it to be true. We see through a glass dimly but then face to face.  I am smiling as I write for what we will see will make the shining rocks of the Dolomites pale into insignificance.
