After an enthusiastic start, technical problems arose, forcing the server---and the FAQ---to shut down. By the time the FAQ was restored several weeks later, on a different server maintained by a different person, the momentum was lost. The original database developer was no longer willing or able to devote time to the project and the FAQ languished. No new entries have been added for some time, though the FAQ remains available (as of this writing) via the VMF Elite portal at www.classic-mustang.net.
It's too bad. It was a good idea that got off to a good start. But it appears that a sophisticated database on a privately maintained webserver is just too complex an undertaking to be sustainable in a public, community supported environment.
This website will strive to avoid such complications and will therefore be dedicated to the KISS doctrine ("Keep It Simple, Stupid"). The site will remain HTML only; no CGI, no Java, no Java Script, maintained on a publicly available webserver, as part of the Yahoo! Geocities community. The collection of .html files that make up this site can easily be passed on to, and adminstered by, anyone with a casual knowledge of HTML, should it become necesary to pass the torch.
But it still needs your input to survive.
If you would like to contribute to this FAQ, please send your proposed entry as an e-mail attachment to: [email protected]. If you don't see an appropriate category, don't let that stop you---suggest one. As long as it appears to be accurate, your contribution will be posted as written, with your user ID/e-mail address. If you don't want to be identified as the author, say so in your e-mail, but in that case the entry will be subject to editing.
Remember also, this is a Frequently Asked Questions site, not a forum for in-depth coverage of restorations. Not that there isn't a place for such articles, but this isn't it.
When the VMF FAQ was in the gestation phase, a list of some 140+ questions was proposed as a starting point. Some 30 of those questions were answered before work on the FAQ ceased (see History); half a dozen of those answers have provided the seeds for this resuscitation effort.
The initial list was a good one. Answers to all those questions gathered together in one place (like this website) would represent a significant storehouse of knowledge.
Would-be contributors are welcome to use the list as inspiration: see The List.
Please note, however: this website is an independent endeavor, with no association or official relationship with any other website.
If you want to include a link to your e-mail account or your own website, feel free, but no soliciations or commercial links unless they consitute an integral part of the answer; this is a non-revenue site maintained in the public interest.
