Documentation of the Development Process

The purpose of this website is to act as a retail site that specializes in selling older video games. For this reason the actual products were the focus of the design with a strong emphasis placed on every product including associated images. I also made sure to dedicate space on the home page to showcase featured items in order to reinforce the goal selling items

Defense of the Final Product

I used a vibrant red on the banner to help it stand out. From there I used black as the primary color of the navigation bar to create a sharp divide between the banner and the page content. I also reused the banner's red to show the current page on the navigation bar to help the user recognize where they currently are on the site. Typography was kept basic with headings using a sans-serif font and paragraph text using a serif font.

On the home page the featured items were designed with a white background and dropshadow to help them pop off the page and stand out. This same approach was used to advertise the repair service and site news. On the shop page a table was used to list the available merchandise as items could be easily added to it.

Opportunities for Improvement and Growth

My primary goal for this website in the future is to implement a working search, filter, and cart. The basic layout is already there as placeholders, but in order to make it work I would have needed to use more complicated methods such as javascript. This would allow it to actually function as it's intended purpose as a retail site and grow to include more merchandise. Beyond that I would like to continue tuning the style in order further refine the look.
