Lubec Channel Light
An important trade and fishing port in the 19th century,
Lubec Channel Light was built at the western entrance in 1889.
A "sparkplug" style of cast iron and a
fifth-order Fresnel lens installed.
Staffed by two male keepers it was called
"a stag station", with five levels in the tower,
with two levels used for living quarters for the keeprs.
Automated in 1939 and a modern optic lens installed in 1968.
The light was supposed to have been discontinued in 1989,
but the locals mounted a capaign to save the light.
