Machias Seal Island Light This light is maintained by the Canadian government even though it is in Maine waters. U.S. and Canada both claim the two islands and surrounding waters and Canadian lightkeepers man the station. There is a large puffin colony on the island as well as other sea birds, which are protected by the Canadian Wildlife Service.
