Prospect Harbor Light
In the 19th century, Prospect Harbor had a large fishing fleet,
so in 1850 a lighthouse was built to mark the entrance
on the east side of the harbor.
It was deactivated in 1859 and reactivated in 1870.
The granite lighthouse was attached to a keepers house
and was replaced in 1891 with a wood frame
lighthouse and a new 1-1/2 story house,
and a fifth-order Fresnel lens was installed
and a stone oil house installed in 1905.
The keeper was removed in 1934 and in 1951,
the Fresnel lens was removed and replaced
by an automatic modern optic.
The light is now on the grounds of
a Navy Special Operations Command installation.
