History of SEWFHS
The society started in 1988 with a small group of
people
interested in genealogy and in particular "family history"
i.e. not only the genealogical links between the various
members, but rather the actual history including
personalities, achievements, interactions, etc. The
society grew with enthusiasm and published its first
journal in 1990 which is now published quartely. Today
there are 40 members, both locally and internationally.
We meet every second Saturday of the month at 13h30
at the NG Sonhoogte church in Primrose on the corner
of Turnhout & Winsor roads. See the "Activities" tab.
Meeting days are spent with members doing their own
research in our extensive library, talks by various speakers,
visiting Museums, Archives or other places of
research value, etc.
There is a cemetery recording group that participates in
the Genealogy Society of South Africa cemetery recording
project. Recordings are generally done on the third Saturday
of the month starting at 8:30.
An annual party is held each year with an appropriate theme.
In general the emphasis is on researching family histories,
sharing information and having a little fun at the same time.
Some of the more senior members will undertake research
on your behalf.
