TEACHING OBJECTIVES :
Social conventions of game playing : turn-taking, rules, being a "good" loser
Colour recognition
Association of colours with common objects
Names of colours

This is a simple "track" board game which requires no reading ability.

YOU WILL NEED:
Printout of board (laminated if possible, to add durability.)
Die (numbers or dots)
Counters - different colour for each child

RULES OF PLAY:
Start at the umbrella, the first to reach the "rainbow" is the winner. You can decide beforehand whether you are going to require the exact number to finish, or simply to "pass" the end onto the rainbow : this will depend on the age and ability of the children playing the game.
Throw the die in turn and move the appropriate number of spaces. If a counter lands on a picture, the child must find the colour associated with that picture (e.g. apple=red, pig=pink) and move to that square.
The game can be varied by adding the words for the colours, the players having to read them to move to the coloured square.
