TEACHING OBJECTIVES :
Social conventions of game play : turn taking, abiding by rules/not cheating, losing gracefully etc.
Counting with 1 to 1 corrspondence.
Counting on (starting with NEXT square)
Blending for reading - final consonant clusters

This is a simple "track" board game.

YOU WILL NEED:
Printout of board (laminated if possible, to add durability.)
Die (numbers or dots)
Counters - different colour for each child

RULES OF PLAY:
Start at the the bottom left-hand corner, the first to reach the finish is the winner. You can decide beforehand whether you are going to require the exact number to finish, or simply to pass off the end of the track: this will depend on the age and ability of the children playing the game.
Throw the die in turn and move the appropriate number of spaces. If a counter lands on a word, the child must read the word (with help if necessary), find the picture of the object and move to that square. If a counter lands on a picture, play passes to the nexy player clockwise.

You must decide beforehand whether the children can cope with more comnplicated rules, such as "only one counter on a space - counter landed on goes back to the beginning," etc.
