TEACHING OBJECTIVES :
Social conventions of game playing : turn-taking, rules, not cheating, being a "good" loser
Specific literacy or number targets

This game is for a MAXIMUM of six players

YOU WILL NEED: a printout of game board (laminating will add to the durability of the board and cards.)
6 sets of cards the same size as the rectangles on the board and in 6 different colours corresponding to the colours on the board; sets of words, phrases, questions etc. on the cards to suit targets for lesson - NLS high-frequency words, phonic rules being taught, specialised vocabulary, number targets, subject questions etc.
Die/dice (numbers or dots) and counters

RULES OF PLAY :
Place the cards on the appropriate coloured rectangles at the sides of the board
Players each need a different colour counter
Start either by placing counters anywhere on board or from the black rectangle
Throw die/dice and move along the appropriate number of squares in a clockwise direction
If a player lands on a square which is "their" colour, they pick up a card from "their" set at the side of the board and read the word/answer the question; if correct, they keep the card and continue to collect their set, if incorrect the card is returned to the bottom of the pile
PLAYERS ONLY COLLECT CARDS THE SAME COLOUR AS THEIR COUNTER
Play continues around the board as the players continue to collect their set of cards; when a player has either all or a prearranged number of cards in their set, when they arrive back at the black space they can then leave the outer circle and set off for the finish in the centre
The first player to collect their set of cards and reach the finish is the winner; you can decide whether or not players have to throw the exact number to finish.
