Here are some miscellaneous tidbits of design information that should be remembered and used when appropriate.
- Provide a button or link informing the visitor what's new or what has changed since their last visit.
- Provide the reader a way to contact you with questions, suggestions, or comments. Give them your email address or some other method of contacting you.
- Remember that your pages are viewed on different monitor sizes with different resolutions. What looks good on a 21" monitor may look terrible on a 14". Conversely, I have seen several backgrounds fit great on a 14" and wrap on a 21" thus ruining the design concept. The same is true for people developing at one resolution (as example: 1152x864) and then have the layout look completely different at another (as example: 640x480).
- Netscape and Internet Explorer give different layouts with the same commands. The same is true with the other types of browsers as well as with different versions of the browsers. Test your page on a variety of browsers and choose the look that works the best with each.
- Design your pages so that they load quickly. People get frustrated if they have to wait very long. Many will stop the download and move to a new page if your page is taking too long to load.
- Use the tag to provide text for images that do not load. This also allows the people with their images off to still know what your graphics are.
There are many more tips, but these basic rules will help your pages look their best.
