Content

The content of your page may be the most integral aspect of your web page.

What is content and how do I provide it?

There are four main segments of providing page content.

  1. Evaluate who will be using your page. Determine what the visitor's needs are, and provide the information that they need. There are several ways to do this, but as this page is on design, I am not going to discuss research methods.

  2. After you have placed the information on your page, take the time to check for spelling errors and that the sentences are grammatically correct.

  3. Keep your information in small readable chunks. A web based medium is different from hard copy one. It's hard to read from a computer monitor. Provide several breaks and/or headings to keep the reader's interest. Small graphics help to break up the monotony of lots of text.

  4. Finally, present the information in a clear concise manner with links to relating or supporting sections.

Why is content so important?

While great navigation and layout are very important, if there isn't anything of worth on your page, nobody is going to come back. What is of worth is up to you, but remember who your audience is and what information they want and need. You are their information resource on the web, but if they can't get the information from you, they will go elsewhere.
