Drum Corps
This is from 1998, my rookie year. The corps had just come back from taking a year off, so needless to say, we weren't all that good. But at least we had fun.
Left: Here we are in 1999. The show was really abstract, and only one judge acutally understood it. This was us at the end of the balad, as our 'machine' falls apart. (Like I said.. really abstract.) We took 6th place in division ii this year, barely losing out of finals by .4 of a point at DCI in Madison, Wisconsin.
Left: 2000 was a great year for 'Scades. We dropped down to division iii, hoping to earn some respect for the corps. No one dreamed that we would win our division, especially since the year started off pretty shaky. Nonetheless, we all went home with medals and rings.
Right: 2000 was also a good year for me and my friend Megan. We wrote a weapon I&E duet, and took first place with a 98.0. (It's entirely not the point that we were the only ones competing...) So this is me working it on my sabre solo during our I&E on the outside deck at Maryland at DCI.
Right: Also from 2000. This is during the ballad, when I'm on one of the ladders. I got this pic from the DCI web page, which was on the ticket page for the last two years. This pic was also on the cover of DCI today and in the 2001 calendar for DCI. (Except that that pic also had Ryan and the ladder in it.. but I don't have access to that pic. Sorry, Ryan!)
Left: In 2001 'Scades moved back up to division ii. Through out the entire season we battled with the Madarins, finally taking second place at DCI in Buffalo, New York. Here's a pick of me and John Miranda with our sabres in the beginning of our second production.
Left: In 2002 we moved up another division to division i. Once again, we surprised everyone by making it into finals, taking 12th place at DCI in Madison, Wisconsin. This is the redheads in the corps. From left to right, Steph, me, Craig, then Rachel. (Steph and Rach are sisters.)
Left:
Me (19y/o), Courtney (15y/o), and Jamie (18y/o) in the summer of 2002 right after our quarterfinals performance. (Can't ya tell we wore shorts and socks all summer? Great tan lines!)
Above: clockwise, starting top left, Kaylynne, Tracy, Allyson (Aly R., Aly "not from the valley", or "skyview Aly"), Allison (Ali "from the valley"), and Courtney hanging out on the bus before a performance of some sort. (Who can keep track, anyway?)
Left: Christina, Amberle, Jamie, and Tracy hanging out while we waited FOREVER for everyone one to file onto the field for Opening Ceremonies.
Above: Romy, myself, and Sarah posing for a "guard captain" picture before Opening Ceremonies.
Below: Some of the guard smile for a quick picture on the way to Opening Ceremonies.
Above: Here's some more of the guard sitting around, waiting to hear what's gonna happen for Opening Ceremonies. (Alright, so I finally remembered to start taking pics at that stupid thing, ok?)
Above: Here's a bunch of us hanging out at Disneyland....On top left, Eric, Jared and Trevor, a row down is Fitch, blondie is Amberle, Sarah, Matt, and Ryan, then on the bottom is me, Dani, and Patty.
Right: Jon and I holding our ending I & E pose on the field during finals retreat. (We're the first 'Scades in history to get to actually perform on the field during the I&E showcase.. woo hoo!)
Right and Left: Jon and I acutally performing our I&E for the judges. To the right is our opening pose, and to the left is somewhere in the middle, after he grabbed my ass... lol... aww.. how cute, huh? :)
Left: Here's a random picture... I don't remember where this was, but this bear was up by the girls bathroom, so I decided to take it out... :) (Hehehe.. this was the place where Tracy and I were having issues... hahaha! oh man.. good times...)
Above: Kurt Jull, ladies and gentlemen, Kurt Jull.... :)
Right: Me, Michelle, and Sarah running around Madison in search of Starbucks! Woo hoo! This was some time between our performance and finals retreat. (We were also doing all of our last minute shopping at the souvie booths... )
Right: John Cordell and I on the field at retreat. I miss him!
Left: Also on the field during retreat, My SCV buddy, Alex Burnstein. (It's okay, Alex... we still love you, you traitor! ;) )
Above: This is my long lost brother, Josh. He marched with the Colts this summer, and I think he aged out. (Considering the fact that he left to go to the front of the field during hte age out ceremonie, I'm pretty sure that assumptions right.) Anyway, I found him on my way to retreat, and so I stopped to get a pic with him... Josh, I finally found you, and now you're lost again! (lol...)
Right: Here's Kurt Jull and I laying on the "Wisconsin" in the end zone after retreat. Kurt's been instructing at the Seattle Cascades for two years now, and has helped to completely change the corps for the better... You rock, Kurt! (He's also the reason that my parents let me march the last two years... hehehe! I love it!)
