The Moorman Family Genealogy ... THUS FAR ...

The reader will notice that in other genealogy lineage pages on this web center, I frequently used the word "DOCUMENTED" in the headers similar to the one above...

It's EXTREMELY difficult to use that word as it applies to the MOORMAN family of Colonial through post-Revolutionary Virginia.

The Moorman family had a habit of intermarrying within their own family ... and the lineage for this family is quite difficult to trace and even more difficult to put in a format such as this, especially in the hundred and fifty years between 1650 and 1800...

The information below is my "best guess" scenario based on the available facts of the time...

 

Generation No. 1

THOMAS MOORMAN I was born in 1593 in Isle of Wight, England, and died in 1640.

 He married /UNKNOWN/.  She was born in 1585 in Virginia.

 

Generation No. 2

ZACHARIAH MOORMAN was born in 1620 in Isle of Wight, England, and died in Nansemond County, Virginia.

He married A
NNE CANDLER in Ireland.  She was born in Belfast, Ireland.

CHARLES MOORMAN I was born in 1684 in Isle of Wight, England and died in 1756 in Louisa County, Virginia.

 He married ELIZABETH REYNOLDS, daughter of CHRISTOPHER REYNOLDS.  She was born in 1688 and died in 1765.

 

Generation No. 5

CHARLES MOORMAN was born in 1715 in Green Springs, Louisa County, Virginia, and died on 12 October 1788 in Louisa County, Virginia.

He married:
(1) M
ARY ADAMS on 10 July 1737 in Goochland County, Virginia, daughter of ROBERT ADAMS and MOURNING LEWIS.  She was born in 1722 in Goochland County, Virginia and died in January of 1780 in Goochland County, Virginia.

(2) M
ARY VENABLE, daughter of ABRAHAM VENABLE and MARTHA DAVIS.  She was born on 22 May 1739 in Campbell County, Virginia, and died on 10 March 1807 in Breckinridge, Kentucky.

 

Generation No. 6

ACHILLES MOORMAN (PS VA) was born on 26 October 1713 in Louisa County, Virginia and died on 01 December 1783 in Campbell County, Virginia.

He married ELIZABETH ADAMS in 1730 in Louisa County, Virginia, daughter of ROBERT ADAMS and MOURNING LEWIS.  She was born on 29 October 1713 in Louisa County, Virginia and died on 17 October 1793 in Louisa County, Virginia.

 

Generation No. 7

MARY "POLLY" MOORMAN was born in 1780 in Campbell County, Virginia, and died on 19 October 1824 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

She married R
ICHARDSON WHITE on 11 February 1799 in Campbell County, Virginia, son of RICHARD WHITE and LUCY RICHARDSON.  He was born on 29 October 1773 in Louisa County, Virginia (OR England OR Wales), and died on 26 March 1824 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

 

Generation No. 8

MOORMAN WHITE was born on 08 December 1805 in Olin, Iredell County, North Carolina, and died on 20 December 1890 in Tombstone, Arizona.

Burial: 21 December 1890; Boot Hill Cemetery, Tombstone, Arizona.

Cause of Death: Died in his sleep of old age in a hotel room in Tombstone, Arizona, during a stopover while traveling to California to inspect his gold mines and operations.

The Last Years of Moorman White

He married SARAH BAXTER on 18 February 1830 in Olin, Iredell County, North Carolina.  She was born on 25 May 1814 in Iredell County, North Carolina, and died on 25 September 1905 in Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 27 September 1905, Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi

Joseph was born in April of 1831 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and died on 05 August 1864 – Mortally Wounded in Action during the Battle of Mobile, Alabama (Confederate "March To The Sea" Campaign)

Burial: 15 August 1864, Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi  

Cause of Death: Mortally wounded during the Battle of Mobile Bay, Captain White was smuggled through Union siege lines to Mississippi and sent home.  He died of his wounds and complications (pneumonia) just hours after arriving at home...

Information Regarding Captain Joseph Baxter White CSA

He married SARAH E. (SALLIE) GOODE in February of 1853 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.  She was born in 1834 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and died on 30 September 1868 in Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 02 October 1868; Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi

JOHN BAXTER WHITE was born on 26 July 1854 in Winston County, Mississippi, and died on 31 March 1915 in Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 02 April 1915, Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi

(1) MALISSA JANE HAMMILL on 13 February 1878 in Pontotoc, Winston County, Mississippi.  She was born on 25 October 1860 in Winston County, Mississippi, and died on 29 October 1898 of Influenza during the 1890s United States Influenza Epidemic in Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 01 November 1898, Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi  

Cause of Death: Influenza

(2) DAVIE FRAZIER on 02 June 1896 in Louisville, Winston County, Mississippi.  She was born in 1854 in Winston County, Mississippi, and died in 1900 in Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 1900; Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi

JOHN (JOE) GREER WHITE, SENIOR was born on 17 July 1885 in Winston County, Mississippi, and died 14 March 1960 in Louisville, Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 16 March 1960,
Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery, Louisville-Sturgis Road, Mississippi

Cause of Death: Heart Attack.

He married DAISY PEARL RAY on 19 October 1913 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi, daughter of JOHN RAY and KATE WILLIAMS (ECHOTA CHEROKEE PRINCESS; CHEROKEE BIRTH NAME – UNKNOWN).  She was born on 26 May 1897 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi, and died 19 May 1970 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi.

Burial: 22 May 1970, Pleasant Hill (White Family) Cemetery; Louisville-Sturgis Road, Sturgis, Mississippi.  

Cause of Death: Died of old age in her sleep.

BURNICE FAY WHITE was born on 25 December 1925 in Louisville, Winston County, Mississippi.

She married ORLAND CHANDLER on 18 August 1945 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi, son of ALONZO HARRIS CHANDLER & LUCY WEEKS.  He was born on 31 August 1913 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi, and died on 21 November 1996 in Sturgis, Winston County, Mississippi.

 Burial: 24 November 1996, Sturgis Presbyterian Cemetery, Winston County, Mississippi
