 It is correct that Chandler is French, therefore a Romanic, not a Germanic name. All names and words that begin with the "ch" construction are Romanic, their being no such construction or sound in the Germanic tongue. For instance, Charlemagne.

Although it is yet to be proven that they crossed over to England with William the Conqueror in 1066, adequate proof seems unlikely, although I would not doubt that some of the name Le Chaundeler, etc. did so. The ones in London in the 1300's seem to be the first of the name authenticated in England.
