Mediterranean Tortoises

Mediterranean Spur-Tailed (Hermann's) Tortoises

Max

1992 - 1999

This page is dedicated to "Max" - my first Mediterranean Tortoise. The wealth of knowledge which I attained through his beautiful life and untimely death will never be underestimated. Max helped pave the way to my ultimate success with his, and many other species.

This is Bianca, my biggest, breeder female Hermann's Tortoise.

This is an Italian advertisement for Volvo. No tortoises were harmed in the photographing of this scene ;-) At least I hope not!

****Summer 2004 Update****

While my big female ibera greek tortoise is out on semi-permanent breeder loan in Illinois, I made a heavily weighted decision to sell my entire group of eastern hermann's tortoises. Family obligations and my already limited free time after working two jobs are what brought me to make my decision, however, I compensated for my loss by purchasing the one tortoise I've wanted ever since I can remember - a yearling Aldabra Giant Tortoise (Dipsochelys dussumieri). It's much easier to take care of one animal than it is a dozen, and this little (not for long) Aldabra, aptly named "Franklin," has got to be the luckiest Aldabra in the world having come into such a wanting and loving home. The same can be said for my hermann's tortoises who entered into an equally wanting and loving home and now reside in sunny Oro Valley, AZ. Keep an eye out for a new Aldabra page coming soon.
