Troop 124 was formed as a Brownie Troop in 1993 in Bolivia, N.C. Today there are seven girls in the troop and they are now Cadettes and Seniors. The girls enjoy swimming, canoeing, and archery at a nearby Girl Scout camp. They are particularly interested in helping to maintain local populations of carnivorous plants, especially Venus' Flytrap which is only found in Southeastern North Carolina.

Carnivorous Plants- There are 14 different species of Carnivorous
plants at Camp Pretty Pond. They are; the Venus' Flytrap, Butterwort, Bladderwort, 5
different species of Sun-Dews, and 6 different species of Pitcher Plants. For the past two
years, we have been trying to rejuvenate dwindling populations of these plants. We divided
and replanted Venus' Flytraps, grow flytraps from seed, and cut back vegetation growing
around the plants. We developed and maintain nature trails at camp so that everyone can
see the plants without stepping on them.
