Sorry it took me so long to reply..... been researching on your topic... To tell you the truth, I couldn't find anything. I haven't read anything about Gauss' work with least squares, if you want, I could probably dig up some method of least squares for you, but whether it is by Gauss or not, I don't know.

Okay, first off, there are many types of Least Squares: Conditional, Linear, Non-linear, etc. But because you didn't indicate any specific type, I will refer you this page which is the best one on "general" least squares that I could find.
