STAFF BIOS

NAME: John A. "J.C." Cohen

RANK: Fleet Captain

R7CC POSITION: Regional Coordinator of Region 7

SHIP ASSIGNMENT: USS Accord

SHIP'S DEPARTMENT AND POSITIONS: Executive Officer

DATE OF BIRTH: 7/9/77

J.C. graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in English Education. Having decided not to pursue a career as a teacher, J.C. then moved forward with his other great career love: the library.

Having started as a page in 1993, and having moved up to Front Desk Clerk and Technical Processor, J.C. has become the evening and weekend supervisor at the Nestle Library of Cornell University. Nestle Library is known for being the top-rated library for customer service in the Cornell system, and the Cornell system is the top-rated academic library system in the nation. Essentially, J.C. is part of the best of the best [with regard] to customer service, and takes his ideals of customer service very seriously. J.C. enjoys reading, gaming, watching Science Fiction and chatting with friends in his spare time.

J.C. has been an active member of STARLFEET since he joined the organization in early 1997. At the International Conference in 1997 in Cherry Hill, he presented himself to the Operations branch of STARFLEET and volunteered to do whatever they needed. STARFLEET seized the opportunity to recruit a new and enthusiastic volunteer and put him in charge of Chapter Summaries for the STARFLEET Communiqué.

Locally, J.C. has been involved with his city's STARFLEET chapter, USS Accord, for many years. J.C. joined shortly after Star Trek VI premiered and has climbed the ranks first as Head Security Officer, then Chief Operations Officer, and finally to Executive Officer, where he has served for 3 years.

J.C.'s duties in this role have been to solve problems for both individual members and the entire ship as they occur, to implement policy as desired by the crew, to ensure that all the division chiefs are doing their jobs, to fill in during absences, and to arrange and run the monthly Command Staff meetings.

When Fleet Admiral Michael Smith passed his vote of confidence and began his second term, newly minted Chief of Operations Les Rickard promoted J.C. to the position of Deputy Vice Chief - East, a primary responsibility of which was fixing problems as presented on chapter MSRs. A year later, J.C. decided to make some changes in his life and volunteered to work with new RC Jesse Smith and become the VRC for Sector 3.

In that role, he continued to be a problem-solver, but new responsibilities included fostering communications and advising the RC on both Regional policy and issues before the EC/AB. When Jesse Smith decided to retire as Regional Coordinator, J.C. was the most senior VRC and became Interim RC.

In March of 2001, J.C. received the required support from the Region chapters to become the new RC of Region 7. He fully expects to lead this Region for years to come.
