ABOUT THE REGION 7 CADET CORPS

Some of your finest cadets are becoming the future leaders of SFI today. Among them are the future Ship Officers, Commanding Officers, Regional Coordinators, and staff members, and maybe even the Commander, SFI. One of these days, they will ask the ultimate question: Where can we find a group that specifically focuses on the cadet officer of REGION 7?

Well, look no further! Their journey can start right here, with the help of the Region 7 Cadet Corps!

Hello, I am CAPTAIN Dean Rogers, Commandant of the Region Seven Cadet Corps program. I would like to welcome you all to the halls of the REGION 7 CADET CORPS Online Headquarters. If you are a cadet striving to become part of the next generation of STARFLEET officers or a senior officer who wants to help shape the next generation, then you have come to the right place. The R7CC is here to let the younger members know that they can become the future of STARFLEET today.

History of the R7 Cadet Corps

The Cadet Corps started as a project on November 13th, 1999 at the Region 7 Conference in Ithaca, New York. There, a group of former cadet officers (Captain Alan Cohen, Commander Robert Mulvey, Lieutenant Junior Grade Maxxwell Santiago, and Commander Dean Rogers) and fellow senior officers had discussed a new program to focus on one of STARFLEET International's finest assets: the REGION 7 Cadets.

For the next eight months, we developed staff positions and gathered many ideas on how this program could benefit the youth of Region 7. After eight months of planning, we presented our ideas at the 2000 R7 Conference in Hanover, Maryland on August 13th, 2000. After viewing the R7CC Power Point presentation, former Region 7 Coordinator Vice Admiral Jesse Smith gave his seal of approval to make the project into a full-fledged program.

Today...

Today, we are continuing the journey that we have begun. Each of us in STARFLEET has our individual strengths and weaknesses. There are areas where we are knowledgeable and areas where we could use some assistance. My goal as the Commandant, R7CC is to advance the use of cadets in STARFLEET by encouraging each current and former cadet officer to share his (or her) knowledge and experience, while learning from the knowledge and experience of other members.

The mission of the R7CC is to get our cadets more involved in ship and regional events. Currently, we have sent out surveys to all the region's chapters to determine what chapters have cadets and to gather more information on their chapter cadet programs. We plan to use this information to help better the R7CC. We are also working toward starting a R7CC Awards Program to recognize our cadets' activities within and outside of SFI.

I would also like you all to thank the former and current cadets onboard your ships. Their motivation, dedication, and hard work are the reasons why the R7CC was created. Let's teach them what they need to know to create a brighter future for SFI and Region 7.

CAPTAIN Dean Rogers
Commandant, REGION 7 CADET CORPS
