2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Commentary Repentance, or the will and desire to repent (i.e., to regret your actions and to set into place a course of action to turn away from past behavior) is not a given; the will to repent comes from the spirit of God. Therefore, when you pray for repentance for yourself, ask God for the "right desire" to manifest in your heart. If you are praying for someone else to come to repentance, pray that they receive the call of God on their spirit unto repentance. It came to the thief on the cross with Christ, that he had spent his life in error. He saw, that is to say, he recognize the power of God hanging on a cross next to him. Do not wait until you are hanging from a cross in this life, do not wait for your final hour to repent, you will miss all of the adventure of the Christian experience. The thief had no more time to correct his life, but sufficient time to obtain a ticket for redemption/salvation into eternity and enough time to escape the clause of a fiery eternity in hell. Let Us Pray...
Prayer of Repentance Our Father, who is above all, who is the only true and living God, Holy is your name. The name that is above all other names and the name by which all things are made (Psalms 138:2). Father, I come to you, humble, and I bow down my spirit and will before you, seeking your attention Lord, right here and right now. Lord, without even knowing you fully, you have revealed to me how fragile and vulnerable I really am. You have shown me how without your mercy, my life is really just a vapor in time and space (James 4:14). Dressed in my insignificance Lord, I present my own sins and sin lifestyle open and uncovered before you. I realize you know everything about me, from myself and from you Lord, I cannot hide (Psalms 139:7-16). I am amazed that you regard mankind, but not only do you regard low life forms such as myself, you love us and died to redeem us. I have learned that part of what has separated me from you was passed on to me via Adam (Romans 5:12), nonetheless, I have been out of control and the stench of my own sins overwhelm me. The hurt and pain that I have caused myself, my family, my friends and even strangers, is now too much for me to bear alone. I want to change Lord and I know you can change me and make me whole again. I submit myself to you Lord God, to be changed. Make me like yourself, clean me up and polish me off Lord, I want to be spotless in your sight (Isaiah 1:18). Give me Jesus in my life Lord; give me the kind of leadership that will not lead me down the final path of destruction. I realize fully now, how my disobedience to your Way, your Word and your Will has not profited me. I see how the imitator of light has only robbed me of your glory and inner peace and I want to return to you Lord. Today, I submit my life to you afresh and I denounce my old path (Romans 10:9). I seek to walk in your ways Lord, give me power today to choose Life in Christ, to DO what is right in your eyesight and to reject that which is against me and your throne of Grace (Psalms 41:4). Today Lord, touch my life. In Jesus' name I pray believing, amen.
