Another Chartreux on the Web

Jedi and Pippa lounging on their castle Jedi and Pippa invite you to visit their website. Jedi is 9, Pippa is 4; they were both bred by Jessie in Austin, Texas. (Their folks helped me create this web site.)

General Cat Sites

  • About.com's Cats Directory
The About.com Cats directory has lots of good, personally-selected links to cat sites. The Aneise Chartreux Cattery is proud to have been chosen a "Best of the Net" cat site by their editor.

  • Yahoo's Cats Directory
The Yahoo directory is a good starting place for your online cat researches. It includes pages for individual cats, organizations, breeds, etc.

  • Excite Cats Sites
Excite has a good collection of recommended cat pages on the World Wide Web.

  • The Petcare Information Center
The Petcare Information Center is sponsored by the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. They have information on all sorts of pets, including cats. We know about them because they asked to use Jedi's photograph to illustrate their breed page for Chartreux!

Cat Organizations

  • The International Cat Association
The TICA web site is full of links to breed descriptions, catteries, show schedules, and the like.

  • Cat Fancier's Association
Founded in 1906, it began a Stud Book and Registry. "Peter", a kitten, was the first entrant and was given the first number. "Kenilworth" was the first cattery registered. In 1907 the first Annual Meeting was held in Madison Square Garden. However, CFA is not the oldest cat club: it was preceded by teh Beresford Cat Club, which published its first Stud Book and Registry in 1900. In 1904 the American Cat Association, an offshoot of the Beresford Cat Club, was incorporated. From these beginnings came CFA in 1906, after which the other two clubs became inactive.

Usenet Newsgroups

You can get up-to-date information, ask questions of other cat lovers, and generally find out what's going on in the cat community by subscribing to one or more Usenet newsgroups relating to cats. Note: if you're web browser is configured to allow this, you can read the groups below by clicking on their highlighted names. If not, consult the company that provides you with Internet services to see how to subscribe to news groups; they probably have a way to enter these names.

  • Netiquette Core Rules
If you've never subscribed to a newsgroup before, you might want to read a tutorial giving some guidelines for posting questions responding to others, and outlining some time-tested rules of ettiquete for newsgroups. Excerpted from the book Netiquette by Virginia Shea, this is one page of a large site on the rules of citizenship on the Internet news groups. Reading (and following!) them will give you a boost towards becoming a valued contributor to Internet discussions.

  • rec.pets.cats
The grandfather of all cat discussion groups on the Internet. This newsgroup offers a lively general forum for all cat issues and comments. While many of the discussions are whimisical, you'll also find some good advice and answers to many of your questions.

  • rec.pets.cats.anecdotes
A place to share funny (or moving) stories of what your cat does!

  • rec.pets.cats.health+behav
A specialized forum for asking questions related to your cat's medical and health issues. Includes discussions on how to deal with problem behaviors.

  • rec.pets.cats.misc
The catchall for things that don't belong in other places.

  • rec.pets.cats.rescue
An important part of the cat community, rec.pets.cats.rescue is a place to discuss topics related to saving cats who desperately need loving homes.
