Hello !!!!
I'm finding it irresitable not to write you guys every Sunday and let you
know how well Prancer is doing. As we speak, he is laying at Gary's feet
watching ....what else.....football (it is Super Bowl Sunday)!!! Today he
had a bath and I used the hairdryer on him again which he thinks is a blast.
And boy does he look handsome!! Friday night we took him to a restaurant
called "Demer's Den" that allows canine companions. It was a blast!!! Demer
was a Golden who passed away last year. He was 15 years old and had cancer
everywhere. So they were pretty partial to Prancer. Now they have an
American Eskimo named "Pepe le Pew" who thinks Prancer is the greatest thing
since sliced bread. You should've seen these two!!! They were all over each
other and having a blast!!! And then when they were tuckered out, they both
curled up together on the floor. It was precious!!! The owners took
pictures so if I end up getting a copy, I'll send you one.
We started obedience yesterday at PetSmart. And who do you think was the
show-off? You guessed it!!! The Prancer Man!! He does have an advantage
though, having spent time w/David. And boy is it evident!!! Everyone was so
envious!!!! Prancer just layed down in the middle of the class and closed
his eyes while the other dogs (An Akita, min pin, bichon, sheltie,
etc)...were yipping and having a fit!! It was nice to be in that position!!!
But I'll feel really bad if they all trade their dogs in for Goldens!!!
We are thinking about talking w/Betty to foster or possibly adopt Roxy. How
is she doing at John's? We think Prancer would love the company and , of
course, Gary and I always have room for another puppy in need!!!!
We hope to hear from you guys soon and will keep you posted about Prancer.
We are truly the luckiest people in the world to have been chosen to give
Prancer a home. He is the best!!!!!Julie and Gary

Hi Everyone!!
Well, here it is.....The anxiously awaited weekly update on Prancer.
This week went by so fast!!! And first, let me say one thing: I THOUGHT WE
LIVED IN FLORIDA!!!! It's freezing!!
Not that the weather discourages Prancer from swimming....on Friday afternoon
I was sitting on the back deck with my 9 year old neighbor Amanda, and
SPLASH!!! One of Prancer's tennis balls had rolled into the pool and
apparantly that's NOT where he wanted it! I would've though he'd be
shivering...the water is only 70 degrees (even with the heater running 10
hrs./day...this cold weather stinks!). No shivering from the Prancer Man
though....he wanted more!!! So, after about 6 rounds of throwing the ball in
the water, Prancer jumping about 5 feet up into the air before diving in to
retrieve it and then him shaking off ALL OVER ME we called it quits. Into
the shower we went!!! Of course, he was beautified with the hairdryer
afterwards.....which leads me to another funny story!!!!!
Saturday morning I had the bedroom door closed while I showered. We have a
window in the bathroom that I tend to open while I use the hairdryer as it
cools the room off. So, window open I was doing my usual hair styling when
...who appeared at the window wagging his tail????? You guessed it!!! So I
started blowing him dry through the screen. He went bananas!! What an
absolute comedian!!!
Not that I need to tell you guys I'm sure...but obedience class is going VERY
WELL. He is the star of the classroom! Yesterday the instructor used him as
her "heeling" example. He did beautifully! And on our walk this morning
he did even better! He sat every single time I stopped! What a good boy!!
The instructor also told Gary and I how lucky we are to have such a good dog.
When I asked her if she knew where we got him she got really teary-eyed and
told me that Gary had already told her about GRRMF. She could not believe
that ANYONE would give up such an amazing creature! She's right!! But boy
are we fortunate to have wound up with him!!!
What a snuggler he is, too. I fell asleep on the couch last night watching a
movie and all of a sudden I was REALLY WARM. Prancer had managed to curl up
right next to me and crash. Okay, so I know it's not necessarily good house
manners to let such a big dog up on the couch...but it was only once, right?
We'll see, but I doubt it!!!
We took Prancer to the Palm Harbor art festival yesterday and man, did we get
the compliments!!! He loves that kind of thing! Tonz of people to pet him,
lots of other dogs to say hello to, food in every direction!!! It was so
much fun!Well, that's about it for this week......
I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy...Gary and Julie

Hi Guys!!!
Sorry this wasn't written first thing this morning (DAVID), but here is the
weekly update on THE MAN!!!

Lots went on this week....

Prancer got to meet my girlfriend Karen and her two Dalmations; which he
thought were pretty neat! Dutchess is a 6 year old deaf female Dalmation who
is very prim and proper. At first she didn't know quite what to make of Mr.
Man but she warmed up rather quickly. (Did I mention how hard it is to type
with an 85 pound retriever resting on your hands????-- Prancer's current
position), Taz is Karen's male Dalmation who is about 2 years old (whom she
rescued about a year ago from an abusive home). After the inital sniffs were
out of the way all three dogs were in the backyard running like CRAZY!!
Unfortunately, they all LOVED the tennis ball, so it was very entertaining to
watch them try to figure out who got the ball next!!!!

All of us (the 3 dogs and Karen, Gary and I) went to the "Mutt Strutt" which
is a fund-raising fu nction put on by the Humane Society of Pinellas County.
They had Doggie Fashion Shows and the whole 9 yards. EVERYONE had at least
one dog on a leash so it was a very social day for The Prancer Man!! He had
so much fun! We actually wore the dog out (David, can you belive it?!!?)!!!
There were 2 incredibly funny things that happened on Saturday........

When we first got there a young girl was dressed up in a dog costume (we're
talking BIG mask and all...full body costume down to the paws...) and she was
playing with the dogs. Prancer went ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!! He went up to her,
unsure at first..only to decide THIS WAS THE "DOG" HE REALLLLLLYYYY WANTED TO
PLAY WITH!!" It was hilarious!!! All you could hear was the girl lauging
histerically as Prancer was sticking his big nose in her only air-hole and
licking her like crazy! We got pictures, fortunately ....you'll have to see
it to belive it!

After he got his jollies with the "big dog" we walked around for HOURS...
there were so many beautiful Retrievers there. It's so funny...I didn't
realize that we would automatically be members of this exclusive "club." It
was so strange! It seemed like every breed of dogs and their owners were in
some corner of the park just talking amongst themselves about their dogs.
Gary was absolutely hilarious. He didn't really want to hear about everyone
else's dogs; all he could talk about was THE MAN!!! What a good DADDY!!
Okay, I got sidetracked.... so there were these people doing agility with
dogs of all breeds...it was amazing to watch!!! After they were done
everyone had a chance to try their dogs over jumps, poles, etc. Well, as I'm
sure you can imagine Prancer had NO TROUBLE AT ALL showing all these other
sissy dogs how easy it was to go right over any jump....around any
pole......but the tunnels...that's another story. He was fantastic!!! He
ran through these 15 foot tunnels no sweat. Then he realized that it was
shady and cooler in the tunnels so he LAID DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS 15 FOOT
TUNNEL. What a comedian!! I called him from one end and Gary from the other
and the WHOLE TUNNEL started shaking.....Prancer Man was wagging his tail
like a maniac inside. By now, there is a circle of people around us
laughing. I'm positive now that if Prancer was a human he would be a
stand-up comedian! We got pictures of him at the end of the tunnel with his
beautiful head on his paws and a ball in his mouth. They definitely need to
be passed on!!!!

So, after the "Mutt Strut" it was time for obedience class. But, of course
we had to get lunch first...We went to Chick-fil-A and ate outside. He was
such the perfect gentleman everyone wanted to know who our "breeder"
was...they wanted a dog as good as him!! What a compliment! So, we went to
class after that and he was...again...the straight "A" pupil. We did
stay....and turning heel....Need not I say that he had no difficulty
whatsoever with those commands (thank you Dave!). We feel guilty that our
job is so easy!! And he's not just a show-off in class...he even does it at home!

OKAY.....fine! We are the ULTIMATE parents in LOVE with their dog..........
today Gary and I went to look at a bigger vehicle. Gary has a 2 seat
convirtible and my Sebring Convirtible is not much roomier. Prancer needs to
be comfortable! And since he goes everywhere with us we think that is pretty
important! Of course we found a truck that is gorgeous and way too
expensive...but we will probably make an offer on it tomorrow. It's a Ford
Expodition. It is absolutely beautiful and there is plenty of room for the
Prancer Man!!! Plus, we will probably have children within the next 2 years
so it makes sense to have a bigger car, RIGHT?!??! (Give me some support
here guys....I can't possibly tell my family we are getting a new car for our dog!

Well....that's about it for now. We still can't thank you all enough for
such a WONDERFUL animal who is such an important part of our lives. He is so
affectionate and kind.......Truly an amazing animal!!! By the way...we are
planning on doing agility classes with him after our advanced obedience class
is over..so if you have any pointers..let us know!!

Love to all of you!!!
Julie, Gary and THE PRANCER MAN!!!!

P.S. David, I will give the Prancer Booyyyy a hug for you!!!
Thanks again ...COME VISIT US!!!!
