GSP Rescue

About Us & Our Mission

The GSP Rescue of WA is made up of volunteers who donate the time and space to rescue GSP’s that have been lost, placed in shelters, or are in danger of being euthanized. Occasionally, we assist GSP owners that have made the decision that they can no longer keep the dog and have chosen to take the dog to a shelter.

When a GSP becomes a Rescue dog, we spend a minimum of a month working with the dog. If the dog needs veterinary care we make sure it gets the care it needs. Dogs are spayed or neutered. During the dog’s stay in foster care, we try to socialize the dogs in as many situations as possible, around other dogs, cats, horses and most importantly, children. We work with the dog in the house making sure that they are housebroken and know how to behave in the house. We also teach basic obedience and make sure they know “come” and how to be walked on a leash. We want these GSP’s to become permanent members of the family in their new homes. If the dog isn’t ready in a month’s time, we keep working with them until we feel that we can understand the dog’s personality enough to match it to the right home. We try to educate people on the breed as much as possible and have them spend time with the dog at the foster home a few times before taking the dog home. If for some reason the adoption doesn't work out the dog MUST be returned to us.
