Tramp, and his mother Lady, were surrendered to a kill shelter by their owners last Summer. Lady was a
beautiful, friendly, full-blooded cocker spaniel and was adopted quickly. Tramp, however, sat in the back of the kennel shaking. He was not a full-blooded cocker but he looked beautiful to us, and we couldn't bear to
see him that way so we started trying to socialize him at the shelter. He wouldn't walk on a lead at first--he was just too scared. By the time Lady went to her new home, he would walk on a lead--we were walking him, in
fact, when Lady was taken away from the shelter. The heartbreak of that scene made us determined to place him! A local groomer donated her time and talent to groom him, and North Carolina Cocker Spaniel Rescue agreed to
take him even though he wasn't a purebred cocker. The rescue group picked him up at the shelter and kept him for several weeks in their foster home. He blossomed with the love and attention, and ultimately was adopted
by a family with a little boy who immediately fell completely in love with Tramp. The love was reciprocated by Tramp, and the little dog who after weeks of pampering still would not go near a car, jumped happily and
without hesitation into the car with new master. |
