Jax is a yellow Labrador retriever who was picked up as a stray. Since Labradors are the most popular breed, the shelters are
full of them because everyone wants to be in the business of lab breeding. Jax, however, seemed so gentle and sweet that we had to try to save him. We contacted North Carolina Lab Rescue and they put us in touch with a
wonderful family from Winston-Salem who were willing to drive the 4 plus hours to come look at him. He was smelly, had fleas and ticks but performed his "roll-over-and-rub-my-belly" perfectly. His new family
had him bathed at a local vet's office and then put him in the Yukon for the long ride home. Once there, they discovered that he was heart worm positive, and their other dog was unsure about this new "friend."
To their credit, they stuck it out, had him treated for heart worms and now report that Jax and Lexi (their other Lab) are inseparable. He loves stuffed toys and his favorites include a sissy pink football and a royal
blue fake fur stuffed man (which long ago lost its stuffing and has become merely a scrap of fur). His new mom wrote to us recently: "I can't
describe the personality this dog has. He's so sweet and quite smart too. He loves to go for walks and rides in the Yukon. And he loves everybody, especially kids... I just wanted to let you know how happy we are to
have Jax and just how well he's doing. There are millions of dogs who need a home, but we were meant to wind up with him. Thanks again for all your help saving him." |
