This page is for all the pets my son, Curtis,
and I have had over the years who made
our lives brighter and helped to teach us
unconditional love and acceptance of what is.
Almost everyone in my family has a pet or
more likely, pets. There is a wide variety
of breeds and a number of ex-strays.
Maybe one of these will help you find just
what you're looking for in the way of a pet.

Hamsters: Curtis has had seven hamsters over the years. All named either Sammy or Herbie no matter if they were male or female. They are a good pet if you live in an apartment.
Guinea Pigs: We had one guinea pig named Albert. He was adorable. When he heard my feet hit the floor in the morning he would start to whistle.
Rabbits: When I was little during WWII we raised rabbits for meat and pelts but looking back we kept most of them as pets. I guess the original plan didn't work out as my parents intended. Curtis had three, Whitey, Velvet(all black), and Cotton who was brown. Now Ra hasPeanut a black and white dutch. I think they are great pets.
English Springer Spaniel: Friends of my parents gave me Penny on my 5th birthday. My mother had always said no to a dog but she couldn't resist it when the puppy was there in person. Penny was black and white.
German Sheppard: Blitz was a registered AKC German Sheppard and the first dog we had after I got married. He was a great dog and protected Curtis very well when Curtis was a baby. Blitz was kind and gentle with us but was a very good watch dog when it became necessary.My sister Pat had a German Sheppard named Frei who was a trained guard dog. He was a very good and gentle pet but he never forgot his training.
Beagle: Peppy came from the animal shelter and was a peppy little thing. Hence the name. It only took a few days before Charles Schultz's Snoopy column took on a whole new meaning.
Mixed Breeds: When I lived on a farm here in Ohio I ended up with a number of animals, mostly from the vet. My sister Jan threatened to not let me go back by myself. I like mixed breeds. They're like most of the rest of us in America, no one thing. They can be less tempermental and more relaxed. I got Thor who was a Collie/Hound mix. Except for the ruff there was no Collie in him that I could see. I took him to the vet for shots and while there they showed me an all black cat that had been brought in for declawing and never got picked up. No one would take him because he was all black. So I was sitting in the waiting room with Pan waiting for Thor when two girls came in with a little dog that someone had just dumped out of a car. The vet had no room for her but would give her her shots etc. if I wanted to take her. So BlitzII got in the car with Thor and Pan and I. Blitz was a mix of Sheltie and German Sheppard. She looked like a Sheltie but was colored like a German Sheppard. The next time I went to the vet I came back with a little orange kitten with no where to go. Puff became part of my family. This is when Curtis had his rabbits and I had also gotten him two ducks for Easter. Enter Duffy and Daffy. The next year we moved back to Virginia to Colonial Beach and the whole group went along. The vet there loved us also. About once a week I'd get postcards addressed to Thor, or Cotton, or Pan telling them it was time for their shots etc. Duffy the duck turned out to be a Mallard and when we got to the beach he flew off with a flock of Mallards one day. My Samson was a Golden Retriever/Golden Labrador mix. He was an adorable puppy and a great dog.
Parakeets: Over the years we've had many birds and they are so much fun to watch. I had a white parakeet named Lovie that kicked the other birds off the perch if they attempted to sit on the same perch with her. She would sidle up to them and then lift her foot and kick them off. I never knew birds kicked each other.
Great Dane: My sister Jan prefers Great Danes and has had three over the years,Titan, Titian, and Shadow.
Yorkshire Terrier: Pat, when her girls were younger, had a Yorkshire Terrier which they all babied. Jo also had a Yorkshire Terrier named Muffin.Jo had her for twelve years.
Siamese Cat: My neice Terri had a Siamese that was the friendliest most loving cat. She called her Cuddles.
Standardbred Horses: Pat owns and prefers Standardbred horses.She is involved in Standardbred racing.
Miniature Horses: Pat owned a miniature horse named Equus at one time. It was smaller than her German Sheppard Frei and was house broken. It used to whiney to go out.
Greyhounds: My neice Heather and her husband Dave have two Greyhounds which they are very attached to. They adopted them from a Greyhound Adoption Agency. They are Maya and Gator.
Miniature Pinschers: Heather and Dave also have a mini pinscher puppy which the greyhounds tolerate.
Miniature Schnauzers: My nephew Jeff and his wife Katie have two miniature Schnauzers named Pandora and Ginger and a calico cat named Cappuccino.
Doberman Pinchers: My sister Jamie has two Dobermans named J.C. and Jessica(Jessie) that she has had for a number of years.
Horses: Jamie likes to ride and she and Dave go to horse shows when they are able.
Golden Retriever: My sister Jo has two Golden Retrievers named Riley(he'll be 13 the end of July) and Cinnamon Sue(Cindy Sue was 11 last January).
