O.K. What is a crested peake? Some lines of Chesapeakes seem to produce pups with a strip of hair on back of their neck which sticks straight up or grows in reverse. The ones we have seen came from our Shoobacca Alder Annie, see pedigree below. Smaller areas of reverse growth are often known as cowlicks or whorls. The crest is more noticable when the dog is out of coat. It is not evident at birth but can be seen by 6-8 weeks. The crest is not a fault or ,as far as we know, an indication of any genetic problems. It just seems to be a curiosity and the mode of inheritance is unknown. Do you have a CRESTED PEAKE? Pictures would be welcome, pedigree's even more so. |
