AGILITY
This is a course of tasks the terrier has to accomplish in a certain amount of time. It is key for the terrier to be focused on the owner for instructions. I believe jack russells are the smartest dogs and this is a great place for them to shine.
CONFIRMATION
A knowledgable judge ranks your jack russell based on the breed standard. The dog is judged on the bone structure, size for the age group, teeth... When walking into the ring, make sure the dog is on the left side of you, so the judge can see the dog. Also try to keep the dogs head erect and not down, smelling the floor or pulling.

GO TO GROUND
Here is a great way to test your dogs sense of smell and hunting ability. The judges will put a caged rat on one end of a (usually wood made) tunnel. Your dog places according to how fast he makes it through the tunnel with out coming out the wrong end. Very fun!

HIGH JUMPS
Self Explanatory. This is one of the jacks favorite activity, jumping! You know like in the MASK. They will let the dogs jump over the stick and will continue to raise it until the dog can no longer make it.

RACING
This is probably the most fun and most tense to watch. All dogs over six months are muzzled to protect the other dogs and catchers. Sometimes there are hurdles, which is called steeplechase or just flat racing. At the end of the course they have to go through a hole in a bale of hay. Either way it is very entertaining.
Sometimes all they want is to get the muzzle off or they refuse to go through the hole.

Our First Trial Was In Georgia Where Jackie Won 3rd In An Amature Division Of Confirmation. The most important thing in showing is not to get discouraged and to have fun, both you and your dog.
