Continued from page 3

After slightly delaying their movements, we fell back to the safety of the breastworks. Then, as they moved in closer to our lines we began to plug up holes and fire into them. It was really starting to get hot when someone was injured and we won forced to stop the battle. Afterwards, we returned to our camp.

Tim last day of the reenactment was Pickett's Charge. After receiving much verbal abuse from members of the 3rd Md. I moved out in my Confederate uniform to join 'the 3rd Arkansas in the charge. We wer placed in the woods to await our advance. After a 45 minute artillery barrage, we formed up and began marching toward the Union fines. As I understand, while I was on my way across the field, the 3rd Md. was once again fighting as skirmishers. I knew they all would reserve a shot for me. Luckily, they all took hits before I reached them. After crossing the Emmitsburg Road, we did a battalion fire and then continued to fire independently. Soon, I took a hit. I got up and limped back to the fence where I ironically spotted my dad. Soon I was also with my brother and my good friend Bobby Small. Together, we all left the field.

This was an excellent event considering the size of it. I enjoyed myself and look forward to fighting at Gettysburg again.

THE GETTYSBURG WAX MUSEUM

BY Cpl. Keith Wafts

On July 1112, the MARA. participated in a living history at the Gettysburg Wax Museum. Units represented were die 3rd Md. inf., the 27th Ind. Inf., the Ist W.V. Cav., the 16th Perm. Cav., the Signal Corp., and McNeil's Ringers.  Also in attendance were Gen. and Mrs. Grant, Gen. and Mrs. Custer, and Belie Boyd.

Throughout the weekend, we entertained questions from the public an all aspects of the war and reenacting. The infantry and McNeil's Rangers performed manual of arms and firing demonstrations. It was a good event because we were able to go one on one with the spectators. At most events we are unable to do so.

This is a memorable event for me personally.  During me of Saturday's demonstrations, Capt. Swope called m e forward in front of the company and honorably promoted me to corporal. I would like to thank Capt. Swope, Ist Sgt. Yoder, and all of the members of the 3rd Md. Inf. for this honor.
